Well-nested in Kansas’ Johnson county, Leawood boasts more than 50 years of History. It is not only a welcoming and charming upscale area that even a few famous people love to settle, but also quite a prestigious business hub with lots of annual events. It has the perfect blend of ancient history with a touch of the modern world; elegant neighborhoods, distinctive office buildings and high-profile developments are all well distributed in the city in a seemingly perfect mix. Leawood stretches over approximately 15 square miles and it neighbors the city of Kansas, Prairie Village and Overland Park from different sides which is why we choose to build our dentist practice here in Leawood.
The very first inhabitants of the area were Native Americans. In the beginning of the 1700s, there were some American and French traders who came in to explore the region even further together with Daniel Boone. One notable individual who really helped in shaping Leawood into what it is today was Oscar G. Lee, who was a former police officer from Oklahoma.
Lee arrived in this area in 1922, bringing with him a whole lot of dreams for the future he dreamt of. He purchased a parcel of land that lies in modern day 79 and 103 Streets and Belinder Road and State Line, in a bid to actualize his big dreams. Little did he know that this purchase was the first step towards establishing Leawood. In 1948, the Kroh Brothers established a housing development that saw Leawood become the first city in Johnson county to get incorporated.
From the very beginning, it appeared that the residents planned and hoped for a community that is tightly knit; a city that has the serenity and peace of a small town and the convenience of a bustling city. today, with all the picturesque streets and parks, welcoming churches, pleasant locals and highly ranked schools, Leawood does well to be the gem that all its founders envisioned.
Leawood is a city that has been growing rapidly and exponentially, its population increasing to more than double in just 25 years! Leawood expects even higher growth in the population, and has laid down development plans to ensure that any future plans are well-guided and informed.
I can describe Leawood in just but a simple sentence; one that incorporates all its unique characters. Leawood is made up of a community that draws its background to highly-valued traditions, appreciation of neighbors and stability; it is the perfect example of a community that is driven by vision to lead a sophisticated lifestyle and grow in distinction.
